Sacred Sanctuaries
India is filled with many devotional spaces and the opportunity to explore deeper one's spiritual practice. With the majority of its population practicing Hindus, there is much reverence for Hindu gods all over the country and that is exemplified in the photos below. However, Hindus are not the only religion as it can be seen a large Muslim influence, as well as a notable Christian presence. Islam mostly came from the invasion of the Moguls in India's earlier years and resulted in a variety of mosques and predominant architecture influenced by Arabic artistry, however, this can mostly be seen in the north of India. Surprisingly, there were enough Christian churches to notice its presence here in India, and proved to find its way into every culture and country. Buddhism can also be seen as revered here as it is an Eastern religion and can be compared similarly to Hinduism in its beliefs, although with their own differences according to each lineage. Finally, however, Hinduism is ultimately the largest influence in the religious sphere as it can be seen in almost any given moment as a reference to a god. Indians deeply love and revere their deities and this is proven true over and over every time you hear someone's name, get in their car, walk into their house, or even say hello or goodbye as it will usually include a god's name in it. Hare Krishna! Hare Rama!
