Exploring Education
& Health
Having the opportunity to experience the different modalities of how health and education are tied together, I present a collection of photos documenting this exploration. Visiting the naturopathic hospital was interesting in seeing how they interpret different ailments and what kind of therapies are effective to treat these issues. Water therapy, light therapy, and music therapy are among the few examples presented to my group in ways to treat patients that could be potentially beneficial for approaching issues from a different perspective. In addition, we had the opportunity to explore an Ayurvedic hospital and get a closer look at how medicine is treated from a natural viewpoint. It was interesting to see how, although they are prided in solely using herbal remedies, there are certain chemical components that rely on the use of laboratory equipment and traditional Western practices in order to maximize benefits. Finally, there was a trip planned to a rural village in which a small school was preparing for its first day, as well as hosting a cervical cancer screening for the women in the village, as offered by the Public Health Research Institute of India, our partnered program organization, and we got to immerse ourselves in the experience of schooling as well as practical medicine in the field.
